might adopt a neglected king

a friend i work with says his lil bro has a king he lost interest in and doesnt take good care of it anymore letting him go off feed for a couple weeks at a time maybe more and has mad cage aggression and strikes at anything or anyone near or in his tank.my friend told me he'll tell his bro someone will adopt his king and take care of it if hes no longer interested in the commitment tonight.tomorrow ill get the answer,but for knowledge id like to hear info from the OGs of kings.

im well educated on keeping bps in my short life in the snake love but know jack crap about the rest. theres caresheets ive read and will always read more but heres some random questions.

do kings like radiant heat or belly heat more?

i've read that any diseases that a colubrid has wont carry over to pythons or boas.
is that true?would ibd cross over if present in the king?respiratory infections?etc?

if so how far away should i keep their enclosures?closet?different room entirely?
use different hemostats for both?

Always quarantine, different room would be good, different hemostats probably wouldn't hurt. I use belly heat on mine. You'll enjoy the King for sure.

I really hope you can give the poor little guy a better home! Kings are awesome- decent size, active, neat temperments, and great feeders. I'd say belly heat would be better. I'm not sure about diseases being transfered, but kings should always be housed individually because of their cannibalistic tendencies. Just in case, wash anything (including your hands) that may come in contact with both snakes. You may want to take the king to a vet to make sure he doesn't have any parasites that could hurt him and your BPs.

yeah i know how cannibalistic kings are and so do other snakes.
did anyone see that post on the rattlesnakes reaction to the king?
thats a great idea about taking it to the vet right off the bat instead of just watching and letting it sit in qt.
i hope he says yes,i told him id even pay for it if i have to.

aalllriight my friends lil bro finallly broke down and figured it was in his best interest to let me take over the care of his king,ill be getting it sometime this weekend or next week.woohoo.im not gonna have money to take it to the vet right away like i planned.soooo back to the qt.

since i dont have another room i can put it in for qt,what shall i do? my room is 12'' x 12'',i have a small walk in closet thats approx 5'' x 4'',and in the walkin closet i have a smaller room attached to it for storage 8'' x 4''.that walkin closet storage room gets to 85 degrees f is stuffy and doesnt have light. should i put a light and fan in there and use it to qt the king?

when i go pick him up im going to inspect for mites on the king and substrate,mucus in nostrils and mouth,feces around the vent,alertness and movements.what should i look for during qt?when i qt the poor guy how long should he be quarantined?
hes had the snake for about two years now does that mean ibd shouldnt be present?
what diseases can be passed on from a colubrid to a boid?

Kings don't get IBD. That's boas and pythons. 85 is okay for the King, prefer a little cooler but should work.While in QT, check his feeding habits, his waste for consistency and odor, should be active during the evening. Make sure to have 2 tight hides, 1 hot 1 cold sides.

@winwizard this king is going to live like a king 3 hides minimum,hahaha.one warm,one medium,one cool.im hip to husbandry bro but not qt and allll the possible diseases and infections.yeah 85 in that walkin closet storage room is no bueno thats why i suggested a fan to help cool things off.my walkin closet sits at 79-80 and gets dim natural light from my main room and is only about 4' away from my bp.i read kings are diurnal not nocturnal.

yessss the fecal observations i almost forgot about that.that tells of parasites and such.

does anyone know how parasites travel?airborne or contact or both?

also if i dont see mites that doesnt mean they arent present so im going to go with preventative measures and treat for mites when get the guy..the only mite meds i have within a 30 mile radius of my home is zoo med mite off.i know everyone talks about prevent a mite but will mite off do the justice?
