    petland mouse's/rats....

ok so its general knowledge that petland only sells 3 types of live rodents, and thats small white mice, medium rats and jumbo rats. Anybody on here have a exact weight on a the "medium rats" from petland. They seem huge, but i just wanted to get a estimate, because i cant wait until i can start feeding my now 505g BP, "medium rats". As of now they seem a bit too big for him, but after yesterday going to 4 different pet stores and all of them telling they ran out of rodents, im now wanting to know how long i have to keep this up because i start feeding my BP the "mediums" from petland. From looking at them im guesstimating they are around 100-120g? Anybody one here purchase petland mediums on a regular?

The only thing I can suggest is to find a nearby rattery/mousery. Dealing with the pet stores is always going to be a hassle.

I had that problem before as well..
They smallest medium rats are in 60-70g range what is actually in upper scale for small rat so.... you are basically get rip off with they 5.99 price...
They big medium rats are on average 130-140g.
Waaaaay to big for 505g python.
As Adam said.. do some research and check some small local pet stores or general feeder stores or rattery/mousery.
You'll find better variety of sizes and better prices as well.

i should have given more info, but i already have a 3 mom and pop shops that carry the perfect size "small rat" which is about 70-80g, but yesterday, not only did all 3 mom and pop shops ran out of small rats, but then the to petland that was left as a last resort to buy a small mice ALSO had no more!, so basically i drove to 4 different spots yesterday and come home empty handed on feeding day! The only thing was the petland did have medium rats, which of course seemed too big.

2 of the three mom and pop shops i went to told me to check back today as they are getting a new shipment, so i guess i will end up going to one today, but its just stressful with these mom and pop shops, they are unpredictable, the ONLY place that i know i can buy rats 24/7 is petland, but, they are too big. Cant wait until a few more months, when my BP can take a medium rat from petland, even though overpriced, who cares, they are always available....

maybe petlands are different, but you say smallest medium rats in 60-70 (which is what im looking for) there is no such thing in the 2-3 petlands in my area. There is just small mice (20-35g) medium rats (looks to be 100+ grams) and JUMBOS, which are like huge, prob 170+ grams) only three categories. What im looking for is in between small mice and medium rats....

The petland I deal with has Mice, from pinky to jumbo, also rats from pups to jumbo.

expensive though, I will start breeding aswell when more room becomes avaiable.

ohhhhh, i guess all petlands are different. Here in NYC, all the petlands have just 3 sizes, small white mice, medium rats, and jumbo rats.....

I wish i had that much of a variety in mice/rats here.

I'm Buying my rats in Petland in Greenpoint. When they have fresh delivery those are between 55-70g size so size of small rat but they of course charge as medium...

I dont know if Petco at Union Square still sells rats as feeders but they have delivery every Monday evening 8-9pm and You can catch nice 60-70g rat right after delivery there.

PM me and i give You location of feeder Store on College Point on Queens they carry all sizes of feeder rodents.

You can check Fauna NYC on Upper Manhattan they have reptiles section... but I dont know nothing about feeders but is worthy to explore.

    Hope that helps.

thanks for the info, PM'd you.

Just came back from petland, they just got in a delivery this morning, i didt think they had scaled but i asked the guy if they did, and they actually did. He was nice enough to weigh in one of the "medium rats" and sure enough, too big. Weighed in at .33 pounds, which is 149 grams, way too much for my 505g BP, so i had to resort to doing what i never wanted to do, feed 2 small mice, one was 25g, and the other 31

Hes finishing up the first one now, time for round 2....
