If you just got the snake, it probably isn't going to be very active at all anyway since it is new and still getting use to its new surroundings.

As others have said, height isn't necessary, but the snake will utilize any branches and it may lead to a healthier mental state in the snake. Personally, I think height is a good thing to add to an enclosure, but I still believe a carpet's environment should be at least 2 or 3 times longer than it is high.

PVC perches probably aren't the best, either.
