Jim Thome crushes No. 600!

Being in Minnesota, I watch a lot of Twins baseball. We're having a down year with more injuries than is fair for any team to have, but watching Jim on his way to 600 career home runs has been wonderful.

So here's how tonight went down.

My gf and I were headed out for dinner with a friend. We spend some time there, and head home. More than half of the baseball game is over, but we turn it on anyways to catch the end. I don my twins cap. Thome is just coming up to bat moments after we have the TV on. The announcers mention how on his last at-bat, he smashed number 599. I was a little disappointed, since until now I had not missed seeing any of his home runs this season broadcast live.

One swing later, history is made and I am no longer disappointed.

If we'd had one more tangent in dinner conversation, we would have missed it. If there'd been any road traffic, we would have missed it. But whatever the fates had in store for me today, they made sure I got a good smile this evening. Seeing him hit number 600 on live broadcast was incredible, and both me and my girlfriend were jumping on our feet screaming and clapping and cheering.

Such a monumental achievement couldn't come to a nicer guy either. I need to invite him and Michael Cuddyer out fishing on Mille Lacs one of these days
