A snake of that size in a 55 gal tank simply cannot have a good living environment. There is no way that he can have a hot or cool end because he fills it end to end.

The snake is being put out into what has to be a very stressful environment. People walking by, cars, busses driving close, exhaust, dogs, whatever. If that snake bites someone, or even strikes at someone, or even if someone sees him and turns it in, that snake is confiscated and probably destroyed. The owner is not only keeping him illegally and in sub par conditions, but the owner doesn't seem to have a shred of good sense when it comes to not scaring people with his pet and making things worse than they already are for the public perception of reptiles.

The Issue in NY is that City of New York have very strict law about pets... basically everything besides fish some small rodents and small birds are illegal.

As reptile law if I good remember burmese are not illegal in state but for every snake above 7 feet You need to get permit..
As City law in NYC (5 borough that means Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Staten Island) all Boas and Pythons (including micro spotted python and rosy boa) all Varanids, Tegus, Iguanas, and all venomous Animal including arachnids and scorpions are prohibited...

Fines when You get catch going up to 5000$ per animal and animal is destroyed after is seized...

I know that this is bad law.. because even if i was worry about snake I prefer have 4-5 feet ball python in my neighbor house instead potential aggressive 10 feet Taiwan Beauty snake (and guess what.. just because those are colubrids no "monster pythons" those are legal) but unfortunately because of conservative in they approach to pet policy people in major office i dont see it change in next couple of decades...

So summary: Somebody should inform this guy about potential danger for himself and rest of community he can put because of his reckless behavior...

the only way to own that snake in ny state is with a permit. they were banned in 2004. If animal control sees that snake or catches wind of him owning it they will show up at his crib and take the snake and fine him. I was born and raised in ny so i know the reptile laws very well

^agreed. New York laws suck. Hence why I'm moving out of it.

Another thing.. You said he was bitten by this burmese after feeding it once.. You never handle a snake after feeding. You also never go in directly towards it's head to take it out. There are ways to handle and calm these big snakes to ensure they stay calm and tame. I hope your friend finds a different home for this snake where it will be properly cared for.

you own 2 ball pythons but you posted this thinking it was one, you should read a lot more. and dont listen to anything this guy says. im surprised that animal is still alive and hes not in jail yet. if he tries to tell you how to care for your animals just nod your head and smile, then come here and ask us for the correct info.
