why does he always stay on the cool side

moe always stays in his cool hide of 77 the overall temp is 84 and his hot hide is 90-93????? is something wrong with him or does he just like it cool, once in awhile at night he goes to the hot one but when ever i am here he is in the cool one. Granted i am gone of 10-12 hours a day should i be STESSED

dont worry about it. your temps sound fine, bump your cool side up to 80. no need to worry, alot of my snakes spend most their time (that i see anyways) on the cool side. only one i see often on the warm side is my male BCI rocky. as long as your temps are right then dont worry about it

My female boa is always on the cool side too.. I'm kinda worried about her since she's sick and I want her to be warm and get well fast.

Snakes usually have a default behavior of always finding the coolest place to hide. It's like something programmed in their heads I guess. My BP could be dropped of in the middle of the antartic and still will try to find the coolest spot.

Dylan, it's possible he just prefers the cooler temperatures, but there are a couple other factors to consider.

1. Is the cool side darker? If you have a heat lamp on the warm side, he may just feel more secure on the cooler, darker side.

2. Are the hides on the cool and warm sides identical? Some snakes prefer one type of hide to another. If the one on the cool side suits him better (maybe it's lower or smaller), he'll may just stay there regardless.

3. Is the humidity level the same in both hides? If you use a heat lamp on the warm side, chances are the humidity on the cool side will be higher, and your snake may prefer that.
