I'm making an incubator out of this
I found this large cooler in good condition at the thrift store today and I thought 'incubator'. I think it'll hold temps well, and I can run the cord of the thermostat out the spout on the side that's for draining melted ice.
Do you think I should use 3, 4, or 11" flexwatt? And what thermostat? Is there anything else reliable besides Helix... maybe that's a bit cheaper?

I have built several incubators from coolers and they work really well IMO.. I would much rather use a cooler than a very hard to clean Hovabator
the 3-4 inch tape is going to be the easiest to use .. just run a strip all the way around the inside along the wall use some bottled water or rubbermaid containers filled with water to act as a heat sink to help maintain your temps if you have to open the lid very long during incubation
I highly recommend a herpstat .. I am now useing them exclusivly. they are much easier to fine tune to your specific setup I sell them as well as Matt Graybeal

Whats the company name of the biz that sells the cooler style incubators? They are really expensive.. I think some even come with password protection...

lol.. that's funny. Though, I suppose if you have a clutch of leucistic BPs cooking, you don't want anyone to make off with them.
Herpstats sound good.. a bit cheaper than Helix. Is there anything about them not so good as Helix?

I think they measure up in every aspect and exceed in many features..
the pass word protection on the Avey is to protect from young fingers changing the temp settings

If someone want's to get away with something badly.
They can, you'd think stealing a 2 ton car would be hard.
Yet it happens daily, so I doubt stealing snakes would be as hard.
That will be an excellent incubator Shelby,
What are you planning to breed?
