Talking VICTORY!!! Confirmed the P. miranda as female!!!!

Man this was a ROUGH road doing!! It didn't help at all that I jacked the molt up Anyway, just molt confirmed my Poecilotheria miranda as a female The lady parts of pokies are differnt then what I am used to seeing and messing the molt up in the first place all contributed to why I was not seeing the flap in the first place But it's there loud and clear!!

Here is the best pic I could get of the flap to share (I think it's folded in the wrong direction here though, I'd have to move it with a sewing pin again to be sure of that though):

    What your looking at:

This is the kind of flap I was looking for and they are not no where near the same (this is a Brachypelma emilia molt)

Here is a ventral shot of the P. miranda and you can see why I thought it was female and couldn't figure out why I was not seeing a flap on the molt:

Here is the miranda before the molt for those who haven't seen it yet:

And here is a link to a picture of what a Poecilotheria miranda flap should look like. This is what made the light bulb go off in my head and say I was looking for a vertical skinny kind of flap and not one that looked like the Brachypelma's

I can't tell you how upset I was that I swore it was going to be a female looking at it ventrally but could not find a flap to confirm it on the molt!!!!!! For those who have been following my threads in the T section here know I even went out and bought a brand new microscope for $70 to try to help me look at the molt (the microscope was too strong though and was of absolutely no help and going back to the store today). Anways, I am super happy I figured it out and comfirmed it female and thanks for looking - lol

LOL Thanks Judy!!! I am sure most people will have no idea what I am talking about but I was so excited about it I just posted everything - lol. Hopefully I am not the only tarantula geek that understands all this I really just felt so strongly that this was a female by looking at her "spidery butt" that I couldn't understand why I couldn't confirm it with the molt. You can see everything better in person but I did the best I could with the pics. Thanks though for the laugh

Oh I'm quite sure we have a bunch of T-enthusiasts who will totally get those pictures. It makes me very happy to have such active forums outside of the ball python venue!

Thanks Crissy!!! You can see why I was so frusterated then that I could not see the flap and confirm it with the molt!!! Because I was looking for the wrong type of flap And it didn't help as you can see that I messed with the molt so much that I mangled it all up - lol

Shweet, congrats Jeff! the pokies have really wonky spermathecae, I agree, but the ventral shot is SUPER female looking too. Always good to have pokie females
