New BP Owner and Mites
Hi all,
I recently got a BP and here it is a few weeks later and I discovered that she has mites. I grabbed my spare tank, cleaned it, lined it with paper towels and have her quarantined in there until I get PAM (checking my local supplier and if not ordering it) and do a thorough, clean, sanitize, and spray of her normal habitat.
What do you suggest to treat the actual snake?
I gave her a good soak last night to get as many off of her as possible but I can see that some are under her scales.

Re: New BP Owner and Mites
I personally have used extra virgin olive oil and covered her completely. I leave that on her until she sheds. It suffocates the mites and she sheds them off. I have done this in the past without complications. Although I am not a pro or anything just what Ive done in the past.

You did good by soaking, after treating with PAM per instructions on the can, check her again in a week, but she should be all set. PAM works great!

Re: New BP Owner and Mites
Thanks Guys. I got the PAM yesterday and as soon as I got home I soaked her again. This time I say a lot of the mites in the water. Then I transferred her to holding while I took care of what is to be known as her "hospital ward" tank. I cleaned it AGAIN. Hit it with PAM. Let it dry/air out. Hit the paper towels with it too and let them dry/air. Etc. Etc. So far this morning I see no mites on the paper towels. I'm going to keep her in this tank for a few days until I can be sure the problem is gone. Mean while, I'll be continuing the super clean out of her regular habitat.
The other half has had a good laugh seeing all the huge pots filled with hot water on the stove and various fake plants and her caves submerged.
I am so glad I found this forum. It has been a wealth of information.

PAM is amazing!! I doubted it could be so awesome at first, but now that I've tried it..It's just awesome. Works better than anything else I tried! Good luck with the mites!
