Re: When The People You Live With Set The A/C TOO LOW!!

I live in an apartment and it gets HOT in Atlanta. I keep my apartment in the mid 70's. I've never had a problem with my collection getting sick. They have proper warm spots.

Sounds like my place. Temps can change soo quick here sometimes its irritating. Vent is just hardly cracked, but even the insulation in the critter room sucks

Ummmm???? Mom needs to put her foot down. Bet if she went without a cell phone for a month or two she would straighten up If the was in my house she would be sitting sideways if I had to tell her more than once.

I'd have to agree with Kymberli a secondary heat source to kick in if the temp get too low. As wasteful as it sounds I went a a different way but same result I have secondary heat on all my enclosures with a secondary t-stat running it. It kicks in at 80 so if temps dip too low on it comes. It is much more expensive on the front end to set up my way but more cost effective on the power bill (in my case anyway) Also I have enclosures all over my place.

I use folded quilts as additional insulation on my rack and on my isolation cages. My hot spot temps are good and the cool end doesn't get too cold. My guys spend most nights on the cool ends even with my AC set at 75. The rack and cage temps stay perfect.

If you would use something to insulate your racks/cages they might hold sufficient heat even with AC. Or, if you have floor vents, you can get magnetized rubber strips to wholly/partially block the vents. I share a room with the snakes and our room is the hottest room in the house. I end up partially blocking the vents at night in the winter or we'd roast.

My apartment in Midtown is 80 during the day and 76 at night. I've yet to have a problem as well.

this may sound kinda dumb, but why does it matter? my a/c is set anywhere from 72-75, but my enclosure is fine. Ambient temps are in the low 80s, i have a lamp that i use to bring up the temps on the cool side if they fall below, and my warm side is always between 89 and 92. Am i missing something? Should I not be putting the a/c so low? I always thought it was fine because my enclosure temps were ok, but is there more to it?

As long as my enclosure temps are OK, I don't worry about it. I figure the snakes only care about what is going on in their tubs and ta heck with the rest of the world.

I'm with Simple Man, never heard of using this A/C business 74 is super warm for around here

I can see how it'd get irritating though, maybe cover your A/C vent halfway with paper or something to slow the cooling? I used to do the same but for heating, my step-mother LOVED the house at crazy warm temperatures
