Whoa, you know Ball Pythons are NOT tropical snakes right? As kitedemon said in the wild they live in grassy savannas. More accurately they live in rodent burrows in grassy savannas. A rain forest setup is not appropriate for a BP. A tropical snake like a Green Tree Python would appreciate a kind of rain forest setup. Also something to consider is a healthy BP will be hiding 90-95% of the time. BP's don't make the best show snakes. They are awesome pets, the point I'm just trying to make is don't expect to see them out alot.

Also a daily night drop does not benefit your BP at all and is not recommend.

I would also recommend losing your "basking" light as Ball Pythons do not "bask". All a Ball Python needs is heating element under the hide on the warm side.

As for the Herpstat question in my opinion anything more than a Herpstat is overkill for a pet BP. A Herpstat ND is appropriate if you plan on breeding and would like the night drop to use for a few weeks before you plan to introduce your males to you females.

Also if you haven't already I recommend checking out the BP.net caresheet which is full of helpful and interesting information:BP.net Caresheet
