Florida - We've got bugs here

A friend of mine is down here from Michigan with her husband. They're staying out on Clearwater beach for a couple of days. She left a glass of water on the bedside table when she went to sleep. Well, she woke up in the dark, reached for the glass to take a swig - and got a big fat cockroach in her mouth! I didn't have the heart to tell her they can also fly - I have a feeling she'll figure that out on her own!

I'm trying sooo hard not to gag.

    Those aren't ANY fun...

...Ok, so maybe with a cat they are... My brother had a cat who would kill um and then put them in his girlfriend's shoes and pillow cases... Once or twice they were still alive, and she didn't check her shoes...

we have palmetto bugs, 8" long centipedes, and what my kids call "clicker beetles" here in the west texas chihuahuan desert. A few nites ago, I went out onto my semi-enclosed porch to smoke, and after about 20 seconds realized there was a "clicker" 3 feet from me, a tarantula about 4 feet from me... that was almost "ok"... until I saw the damned centipede crawl up the wall! "in house smoking ban" was then "violated" while I RAN thru the house with a lit cigarette so I could be in the back yard where at LEAST I wasn't in an enclosed area with one of these creatures!!!! LOL...

On a side note, I have a couple of "trailer trash" friends that like to claim that they don't have cockroaches, but "palmetto bugs" because all their cockroaches are the mondo HUGE variety... lol

lol! Centipedes are cool if you stay away from them. We've got a snake here, the black headed centipede eater, that eats them, as it's name suggests. It attacks them head on and swallows them...The only thing is, now and then a centipede turns the tables and eats the snake, lol!!!

Lol I guess calling them by their other name makes them sound less gross hahaha!

I knew a family in TN that were close friends with my sister and her husband. Some of this family worked for my sisters husband on his farm. I spent a summer there and went to this families house one day with my sister to drop off one of them. I made the mistake of going inside for a minute. They had those huge roaches so bad they were crawling everywhere in the daylight!

They didn't even acknowledge them. The bugs were on the couch, floors, everywhere.

When I got back in my sisters truck she said, now you know why I don't go in there, and then laughed at me!

It was pretty bad. I'm not sure if it was just them being filthy people or if was because they were prevalent in that area but I'd have a really hard time living somewhere those things were that plentiful.

I use to go to Florida yearly with my mom growing up. I've seen my share of "palmetto" bugs in hotels lol!
