    Please Help-Mite Problem...

Hello. I got my ball python the end of may and had some problems getting him/her to eat (dont know sex yet). Was trying frozen stuff but didnt want it so started buying live, a little while after the first meal i noticed these red things crawling on me after i picked him up. Im pretty sure they were mites, when I had him at the vet which i had to do to get my permit, they said he was perfectly healthy no mites or anything. Now I have been battling with this mite problem for well over a month. I got this stuff called mite off and cleaned the cage and everything umpteen times, they go away then keep coming back but only a few of them. UGH. I am wondering if they are coming home with the mice i buy, I just dont know what else to do. This is the first time ever owning a snake and I dont want to get rid of him but I feel so bad I cant rid him of these dumb creatures.

What many people will recommend you on here: Provent-A-Mite.

    I swear by it, definitely.

Reach for the stars, and if you don't grab them at least you'll fall on top of the world.

Mite Off doesn't work. It is worthless. I have only brought in one snake that had mites and the vet argued with me also. The vet said he didn't have mites but I knew he did. I had to catch a mite and use a magnifying glass and flashlight to see the markings, then I looked up the snake mite pictures and sure enough, exact same thing. However, the vet promised me there were no mites...lol

I use Provent-a-Mite (PAM) also. It is awesome, just make sure you go by the directions as it is a pesticide.

For me, I had to order PAM and it took a week to get to me since it had to be shipped ground. I had 2 snake cages. Everyday, I would switch the snake cage out. The one outside would be filled to the brim with water and bleach and left outside in the sun (summer time also). I would clean the other cage out while my snake was soaking in a tub full of warm water. When the cage was ready, I would put the snake back in the cage until the next day and start the process over again. Needless to say, I only needed 1 PAM treatment and between my paranoid daily cleanings and quarantine, none of my other snakes ever got them.

    Good luck.
