Price question??
I have an opportunity to buy a female pastel lesser het clown for $4500 it's a 2011 just hatched. I haven't seen any for sale so I don't have anything to compare price to. Thoughts? Are there going to be more later this year?
Also would I be crazy breeding to my pastel het clown and not a visual?

Your not crazy at all. Thats a great combo, as long as its 100% het(both yours and the one your considering purchasing.) You could make some super pastel lesser clowns! Those are some steep odds though.
Im not familiar with the pricing though so I cant help you in that aspect.

Re: Price question??
We had a het Axanthic x het Axanthic breeding this year that produced 9 offspring. 6 visual Axanthic and 3 others.
The odds should have been 1 in 4.
Just go to show that odds are another way of saying LUCK!

The odds are what I was talking about. With a $4500 snake, even not having the possibility of the super pastel lesser clown, would the advantage of all babies being hets be better? I also could get a male for $3500, but I have a male.

I would get the male for $3,500. You could be breeding him a lot sooner then a female!

Yes. Either way it's a bunch to put down. I think the female will hold/increase in value more though.

I'd get the female. By the time she's breeding age the visual clown males should have come down in price and you could buy one for less than it would cost today.
Or you could use your het clown to breed her and if you get lucky have a visual clown male and maybe even one with an additional gene ready to breed back to her in a year or so.

Honestly I'd get the male and get a couple sub adult 100% het clown females and maybe a couple 2011 co-dom het females. A little more $$ but a lot more in return. Either way, good luck!

the price is steep but not necessarily out of touch with the market. if i were you, i'd probably pick up the male since you already have a female pastel het clown to breed (at least eventually). the addition of the lesser probably wouldn't change your potential clutch odds all that much if you're primarily looking to produce super pastel clowns. plus you could definitely sell any het clowns next year with minimal drop in value, especially if they're pastels. also with the money saved you could buy a female lesser of breeding size and potentially kick-start the project if you really have your hopes set on a super pastel lesser clown.
either way, best of luck.

It's a fair price for sure, you rarely see double co-dom het clowns around. I'm frankly surprised the male is so much cheaper.
As for what to do.. Yeah if you have the cash to throw down nearly 5 grand on that female, you'd be doing yourself a disservice pairing her with a male that probably wouldn't even fetch $500.
I wouldn't buy that male either unless you were going to pick up some females to pair him with. If you were able to swing it, a visual clown female would pair wonderfully with that male.
You're in the classic position of someone who bought a male before he had a female to go with it. It's hard to be financially optimized in that situation.
