Animal Plastics cages for Borneo's.

Hello everybody. Just a quick question.......

ANIMAL PLASTICS CAGES:

I would like to know if it would be better to go with a t-8 ( 12 in tall ) OR a t-10 ( 15 in tall )? The cage will be heated with a RHP.
I wasn't sure if the 12 in tall cage would be tall enough to use a RHP in with a Borneo female.

PLEASE give some opinions.....

I don't have either of those, but I think it would be better to get the slightly taller ones. I have 2' x 4' cages from a different company that are 13" high, and it's a real pain to reach into the backs of the cages for cleaning. It might be easier if they were a little taller.

I used T-10's with their heat cable & heat tape for years for my adult bloods & short-tails, and they were WONDERFUL cages...they hold heat & humidity extremely well & you may not need a RHP for one.

P.S. I still use AP now, just the VE-175 racks for adults, since they're more practical for our current setup.

I prefer the T-8's over the T-10's just because you can fit six cages in a 6' stack as opposed to five cages. If you really want to use an RHP I would think the shorter height would make better use of it also.

.....I just was thinking that with how thick a large female Borneo got that the 12 in tall would not let me use a RHP without being right close to the top of her back....

Do Borneo females get too big around that a 12 in tall cage would not be tall enough?

For those who have these cages or any other brands, do you use belly heat, and what type or if not what type of heat?

I see flexwatt is an option; is there a slot, is it built in and if it is built it is it replaceable? Others have radiant heat panels.

I had 40 of these cages at one point, 2/3rds of which had the heat cable, the other third had Flexwatt. I definitely liked the performance of the Flexwatt over the heat cable, and it provided a smaller basking spot - the cable takes up half the footprint, which IMO is too much basking spot for a blood/STP. There is a groove cut for the heat tape, and it can be replaced if necessary.

Keep in mind that the cages were being utilized in a temp-calibrated room that ranged (year round) from about 78 - 84 degrees, and basking spots of 86-88 degrees were typically only offered to gravid females & snakes who wanted to sit warm.
