    Does Freezer Burned food kill?

I was listening in on a conversation between a pet store manager and one of her customers, the manager advised the customer to not feed freezer burnt food to their snakes because it can cause diseases. I was wondering if there is any truth to this or not? Personally I thought that it would not matter, am I wrong? Thanks everyone.

While I wouldn't feed freezer burnt food, it is not hazardous. It has just become dehydrated.
When I thaw a rodent I look for fresh looking blood coming out of its nose (from the lungs freezing), if the blood is black I won't give it.

Let me pose it this way:

Would YOU eat freezer burned food?

Then why would you feed it to your animals?

    It doesn't kill them.

I've fed snakes rats with freezer burnt eyes--when a rat is frozen with it's eyes open, they always get freezer burnt. It's never harmed them.

Anything that is freezer burnt worse than just the eyes gets fed to the opossums, who not only don't care but they are positively grateful.

It doesn't matter - it doesn't kill them. It doesn't hurt them.

    They don't mind.

Get out what you put in...

Nothing frozen will ever compare to a fresh meal. PERIOD. It is well-known that freezing kills thiamin (Vitamin B) and freezer burn damages tissue. if frozen too quickly moisture crystallizes damaging the tissue, however it would take a lifetime of sub-par meals and freezer burnt prey to "cause diseases" though, i thinks thats a little overboard.

On that note, have a kid and decide to feed it only frozen food its whole life. My bet is a noticeable difference between your childs health and its peers!

    IMHO

Not a good comparison to me. No I don't eat freezer burnt food but then again I don't eat rats or mice either. By the same token I also don't go out to the pasture or chicken coop, stalk the cow or chicken, and then jump on it to kill it and eat it freshly killed either.

You automatically assumed I was refering to just your post. I was just refering to people comparing feeding habits of a BP to that of humans and you aren't the only one, that's all. I think it's a great question the OP asked.

I do appreciate your knowledge of all things BP because I am new at this whole thing and my first BP back in the early 90's was all live fed and it was a pain for me personally. I'm glad to have gotten educated on feeding f/t and plan on getting a haul of f/t at the next Repticon and was worried about the same thing.
