Owning snakes made me change my major :)

I was a Graphic Design student for my whole school career, but after owning my two girls I finally made a switch: I want to be a reptile vet! I've always loved animals, but there's something special about snakes that just drew me in. Plus there are so few herp vets out of all the vets (especially in my area) let alone reputable herp vets that I want to help change that. It's made me more passionate about going back to school (I've been out of college for almost two years) and I'm excited to learn more!

I'll always be an artist, but that's more of a hobby; now the snakes have gone from being the "hobby" to being the career! Owning snakes changed my life.

Me too Except it's a dream that I've had since I was about 4 haha. Graphic design would probably be among my top 5 though

I wavered a lot between "vet" and "artist", but I went with art because it came easier to me and because of family pride (Both my grandparents on my dad's side are accomplished artists as well as his sister/my aunt who is an art teacher, and my mom was a graphic designer. I'm the last of the whole family that's an artist, so I kinda felt like I was keeping a dying family talent/tradition alive). But snakes are just so damn interesting, I got hooked. Now I want to be a herp vet and a Ball breeder. I've even gotten my boyfriend on board (at least with the breeding part).

Re: Owning snakes made me change my major :)

Cool My grandma and aunt are both artists, and my mom does a lot of graphic design working in social media and such. But I've been madly in love with snakes for as long as I can remember, so I can't not do this, you know? I can't wait until I get my first morphs. Once I get one, there's no going back, and I know that XD Unfortunately there aren't any big vet schools in Arizona, so I'm going to wind up moving out for a while. I'm not sure if there are any reputable reptile vets very close to where I live, but I haven't really looked into that.

Edit: Man, I really do change topics quite randomly, don't I? XD

Re: Owning snakes made me change my major :)

Oh I know what you mean, the closest good VET school to me is in Virginia, and I don't even know what their reptile program is (if they even HAVE one), so I'm still looking too.

Pride of the weekend though: A guy who said he "didn't like snakes" actually held my Ball after seeing her wander around a bit, and admitted she was pretty cool. (He was fascinated by how she moved, I was like "hey, if you could move just using your belly muscles I'd be impressed too." lol) Converting the masses!
