    Rat Substrate?

I feed live and I usually buy 2-3 rats at a time and keep them in a cage. While I was at work my GF cleaned their cage and decided to use pine shavings that I use for my chickens. As you all know this is poisonous for snakes, so should I change it back to news paper, or is it fine.

X3 as long as it's kiln dried.
I like aspen better but pine works very well at 1/2 the price or less
