New Here, I'm Dudeist-mom and we got our 1st bp yesterday.

hi all! im 'the dude' at least thats what i call myself within the walls of my house where all things lebowski abide. i'm a 46 year old california housewife and mom, living easy just outside of weird l.a.
    anyway, never mind about that.
im a corn snake person, have had corns the last 30 years but this is my first ball. i've turned many down because i didnt want to feed anything as large as rats, and frankly, being naive about bp's i thought they were nippy and perhaps just not 'dude' enough for me.
then i met elbow.( everything is lebowski related in my word, my dog is lebowski, and the name is 'el-bow' also a lebowski reference. i do not, however smoke pot and get in trouble with the police in malibu)
now i havent seen elbow eat yet but the guy who gave him to me has had him 5 years and says he will gladly take frozen or live mice, so we'll see in a couple of weeks.
he isnt any special kind of morph, but i think he's gorgeous, handled him only briefly once yesterday and will leave him alone for a while to watch us and settle in.
took him out of a 20 gall with one hide log and little else and put him in a 60 inch long but a BIG thick branch, a larger hide, a large water dish, etc.
do these guys climb? or is he more likely to be happy having ground level hides?
i put in a substrate which i cant remember the name of now, its dark and moist and says its good for bp's, but im worried i wont see feces on it. anyway, this morning he is complelty buried himself under it and even upended the rather heavy branch. do you think im doing ok? im a newbie so any info would be awesome!

    The dude abides,

I'd probably have recommended leaving him in the 20 with his old hides until he had settled in and started eating for you - they really aren't that fond of large spacesd as a rule.

Have a read through our caresheet and see if it helps any.

I wo0uld also remove the heavy branch unless oytu can find a way of preventing him from knocking it down on top of himself - they are rotten climbers when they get bigger anyway and fall off almost constantly.

    And to the site.
