    non identical hides

i have 2 non identical hides in my enclosure. the reason for this was my step son really really wanted the army tank hide from petco, but compared to the other hides it was expensive. so we only bought one. parker has been, it seems, preferring the army tank. it was on the cool side and he kept staying in it most of the time. so i did an experiment and moved it to the warm side for a day, and sure enough he was in the army tank. again i experimented ( i know i moved the hides around a lot but i really wanted to know) and i switched them. he went straight for the hide on the warm side (which at this point wasnt the tank) but an hour later he was sitting on the cool side under the tank. i moved it back and intend to keep it on the warm side. i want him to digest properly and everything and don't want him to choose security over warmth. i really don't want to have to buy another army tank because as i said its expensive IMO (double the cost of any other hide). on top of that i think he is going to outgrow it within a matter of months. should i just keep it on the warm side permanently? is he choosing it because he likes it better? and i read that bp's dont really know better to choose warmth over comfort, so i assume he would just stay on the cool side all the time if i kept the tank there. but will he not leave the warm side now, or will he move if he gets too warm?
