    Some Like It Hot!

I looove hot sauce! I like it on eggs, rice, burritos - haven't found much that a really good hot sauce can't make better! But I want to hear suggestions from the hot sauce connoisseurs out there. What are your recommendations? And I'm not talking about the thermonuclear stuff that's so hot, it hurts to eat or overwhelms the flavor of the food. I'm looking for different hot sauces that add spice and flavor. Any recommendations?

I was thinking about making a similar thread the other day. I'm always up to try new stuff.

Hot sauce selections are rather limited here, at least ones that aren't vinegar based (I HATE vinegar with a passion). I usually just buy El Yucateca habanero hot sauce from Wal-Mart. Pretty decent for Wal-Mart. Other than that I grow my own peppers to cook with. Should have some banana, whitney, hungarian hot wax and habaneros soon. Yum!

Salsa, however, I love Mrs. Renfro's habanero salsa. You'll never eat Pace, Newman's Own or Chi-Chi's again. I use it on just about everything.

Speaking of thermonuclear stuff, I was given a bottle of Da Bomb's Beyond Insanity. Not the hottest stuff on the planet (only rated at 119,700 SHU), but it still has a nice bite and a decent flavor. Not something the average person would pour on a chip or taco and go to town.

Habanero is the shiznit. Also, something I came across kinda by accident... if you're in a pinch tobasco + mayonnaise in the right amounts tastes just like a traditional buffalo sauce lol.

I've also been a fan of chipotle style sauces, like a spicy ranch, or things along those lines. And its rare, but on occasion I've found that a hot sauce with just a twist of fruit flavoring is pretty epic too (most obvious would be the mango habanero sauce from bdubs...)

I enjoy all things spicy, but I eat Shiracha on a regular basis.

I regularly use sriracha and cayenne hot sauces. My favorite cayenne-based is Franks Red Hot. Great stuff. One of my favorite "very unhealthy" snacks to have while watching sports is tater tots, covered in melted cheese, with a liberal amount of Franks all over. Fried cheezy spicy game-day goodness.

I love throwing pickled jalapenos on just about anything. They're a bit pricier here in MN than when I lived in TX, but I used to have giant 64oz jars of pickled jalapenos in the fridge at all times.

My favorite REALLY hot stuff is Dave's. The Insanity and Temporary Insanity sauces from Dave's are great in small amounts, a dash or so on a tortilla chip, or a few shakes into chili while it's cooking can really amp things up and get those endorphins running.

My favorite salsa isn't really hot, but is delicious none-the-less. Last year was our first year really trying to make a successful garden in a 25x25 foot plot. We had SO many tomatoes, it was ridiculous. They were fruiting up until frost, and the day before we were going to get the first overnight frost of fall, we harvested all of the green tomatoes (a few paper grocery bags filled to the TOP) and then tried out a few recipies for green tomatillo salsa. After one or two revisions, we found one that we liked and canned a whole bunch. Despite having a dozens of cans of this stuff, we've gone through all of it before we even began planting again for this year's crop.

Dave's Gourmet Ghost Pepper. Hot but TASTY! Highly recommend it. I use it in small doses in lots of things but also convinced my roommate to eat a spoonful. Super funny but the sauce is awesome! Enjoy

This is the stuff I throw on my wings. It's more vinegar based, but it's Tangy, Spicy, and Peppery all in one. Not to mention there's tiny minced onions in the sauce. It's by far my favorite wing sauce.

The hot is actually pretty Mild IMO so I always go with the Extra Hot.

As for just straight spicy, I keep pickled jalapenos in my fridge and whatever hot sauce I can find.
