hm. i feel like heat tape is typically pretty durable; i've had the same ones for 2 years now and they work fine. but you may just have a lemon :/. like Jessica said, maybe trying to clamp a little tighter and double check your tstat is still working okay, and if that doesn't help then it may be kaput.
