Humidity

I have a four by two cage with a wire front. The temperature goes between 80 to about 85 or so. I have two plants in the cage with a water bowl directly below the heat lamp. I fill the bowl daily to allow for the evaporation that hopefully increases humility. So far no luck. It is stuck between 38 with a high of about 44 percent. There is no fan in the room to cool it off.
The crate is made of 1/2 inch plywood and lined with black contact paper, sitting with back towards window that allows sun to warm it. I also have a heating pad in one corner but both snakes seem to prefer hiding behind the plants instead of lying on heating pad. I have no hide in there as the one corner is almost completely dark even during daylight hours and at night you cannot even see inside the cage.
Will more plants increase humidity or is there a small humidifier that I can buy to put inside the cage?

Outside on the porch was no problem temp was great as well as humidity.

Suggestions are more then welcome.

you can go to home depot and a buy terra cotta plant pot (the brownish-orange ones) and soak it in water for an hour or so. place it in the cage and the water will evaporate and create humidity. if you are able to, cut a hole in the pot for the snake to hid in it. it will solve 2 of your problems =)

I have done that with the pot, I also placed a sea sponge in the water bowl. Humidity is still under 40%. How high should it be to be on the safe side

humidity is now up to 41 percent. Put a reflector around the heat lamp and moved the plants closer to the lamp. Will take awhile but I think it will climb higher.

You said it has wire front you could get plexiglass to enclose the front to hold humidity in more. Picture would explain your setup more I don't think I have every seen a wire front on a tank. Your snakes are in the plants most likely because they feel more secure there.

I completely missed the wire front.

That's going to be a nightmare unless you can close it off with plexiglass or something.

You might be better off just buying a rub.

As far as the sea sponges, don't put in the water bowl, wet them and place in enclosure.
