I use both depending on who can give me a better rate.

Also, does registering with SYR require any payment? And is it necessary to get certified when using SYR?
Nope free to register and no need to get certified.

I am considering getting FedEx certified so I can ship a few snakes and baby geckos. I have read about the process but I'm also curious (and confused) about SYR. If anyone has words of wisdom that would be great.
Get certified to many people got left out in the wind when SYR got shut down for a while.. So it's better to have a back up plan..
