I don't like to keep enclosures wet.
Misting does two things:
1) provide humidity
2) allow them to drink water droplets off of leaves and the sides of the cage
When my geckos are in tubs with less ventilation, I don't mist very often specifically because you can create a very wet environment, a perfect place for bacteria to grow. All of my geckos make use of water dishes, so the water is less of an issue for them. Baby geckos however really do need to be misted frequently, as they may not pick up on drinking out of water dishes quickly.
I've recently been switching them to planted vivariums with more ventilation specifically so I can mist more often without having a wet environment. On top of that they are just wonderfully attractive enclosures with higher ambient humidity than either a screen cage or a less-misted tub.
