Would this be too big?

My BP is a little over a year old, and is about 32inches long
I currently have him in a 29gal aquarium.


I saw a snake enclosure on craiglist for $50 that measures a 6ftx2ftx2ft

would that size of an enclosure be too much for a ball python?

Personally, I think that would be way too big to tell you the truth. Usually the biggest you want to go even with full grown huge females is like 3 to 4 feet long and a foot and a half to 2 ft wide, max.

That is a great deal tho, if you ever think about getting something like a Carpet Python, any type of Boa, etc (bigger snakes that dont have to feel as "secure" as BPs), it would be a perfect match.

I agree, a tad too large for a ball. I'd grab it at that price though.

Simple solution.

Snatch the big cage, divide it in half, and get another ball!

Its not to big...I have my baby in a 75 gallon and she eats , sheds and does just fine in there...just cram it with a hide on each end, a water bowl, and lots of fake plants and other accesories...in mine I got a coconut hide in each end , a hide made from 3 flat rocks bought from home depot gardening sectionc in the middle of tank, a humid hide in middle of tank, a large piece of drift wood, a water bowl, and lots of plants from the dollor tree, she uses all of her hides and at night roams the whole tank..she eats every time offered and sheds good...and not aggresive or acts scared at all!

And your snake is one of the few exceptions.. It is a fact that the majority of BPs do not fare well in large enclosures. This is based on their natural environment. The size and structure of their natural dens, and the frequency in which they actually leave those dens.

They probably could do better if it was as jumbled up as yours is but most people will not put that much effort into filling and decorating such a huge tank for such a small snake which then becomes a real hassle to clean and disinfect.

Unless the OP is seriously looking for a huge, decorative, display tank/cage fit to be the center piece of some fancy restaurant, and decorated as such... I agree with getting either a different species, a lizard, or dividing it. Otherwise you risk ending up with a BP that will not eat and a huge cage that you no longer want.

Agreed. It's way too big unless you're gonna put the time and effort in to it.

That is a steal though. I'd get it anyway and either segment it into smaller housings or hold on to it for something like a boa.
