    pied marker

This snake was not sold het pied, however in my opinion he does show some very faint tracks.

Does anyone think it could be a pied marker? I know its a small track compared to snakes that are het pied. Thought i would share and get your opinions.

Thanks, and i hope the picture works as im rubbish at uploading!

Yes that is a small track, but there are plenty of ball pythons that have them that have proved not to be het pied. The tracks mean almost diddly. My het pied has markers. A lot of het pieds have markers, but then again, there are a lot of het pieds that don't have markers.

But you never know until you breed it out. I read this once and I love it.

When in doubt, prove it out (or was it breed it out...oh well same thing)

You could always breed him to a pied or het pied (pied being preferred) and see what you get.

    +1 to Jay_Bunny

Het pied markers are really not worth much if there's no paperwork to back it up. Some het pieds that are 100% definitely het (like from a pied to normal breeding, say) won't have markers, and some normals can have them. Yes, it can indicate a het pied, but that doesn't mean much as far as identifying a het.

    Re: pied marker

If you have another het pied to pair it with...That could be an interesting project. I would not count on it being a het pied though.

Here is my het pieds markers.

Thats what im talking about! Those marers are beautiful in there own right, very nice.

I had seen others with pied markers like that, one in a youtube vid explaining that not all snakes with markers will prove out unless with the paper work. I just noticed the faint trails one day. Bought him as a pastel, but he is amazing, one of the best pets ive ever had het pied or no het pied.

As its a long long shot i dont think i will be trying to prove him out just yet, but in the future it could be a possibility.

    cheers for the photo

Since he's a pastel, you should get a het pied normal female or a pied female and breed him. If he's a het pied, then you could end up with pastel pieds. If not and you breed him to a pied, you can get pastels het pied. Even breeding him to a het pied, if he's not het pied, you could still get pastels 50% possible het pied.

    Re: pied marker

Markers are really only useful if the snake is know to be or possibly be a het pied. Its not terribly uncommon for normals to carry markers. This guy has great markers and had two ringers. However, he is 100% normal.

    (Parents were mojave x normal)

So it seems these markers that my psatel has a very weak compared to the two photos posted, and as he was sold pastel, i think i will probably not try to hook him up with a het or pied, could be an expensive side project, Anyway, thanks for the imput and i really like that photo.

Thanks! Is there a way for you to contact the breeder to find out what the Sire x Dam was? Just a thought.

That's amazing! Just proves that markers are only as good as their paperwork! Thanks for sharing.

Yes definately, thats a good idea. I got him from a local breeder in copenhagen, just down the block so i can go in and ask him. Im not sure if he will still have the paper work, but worth a shot.
