Feeding
Hello everyone!
I'm wondering what everyone does with their year old Blood pythons.
How often do you feed and what size rats; small, medium, large, etc...
My Blood has been eating one small rat every Sunday consistently, so he has grown like a weed, and I am definitely thinking it is time to move up to Medium rats. If you move up a prey size, do you not feed as often, or can it still be every 7 days.
Thanks guys! He's such a little porker!

Re: Feeding
I feed my yearlings one weaned/small rat per week. The girth of the rats are almost equal to the girth of the snakes. I find it amazing how those little heads and slender necks can eat an item so big.

Re: Feeding
I just realised the title says Blood not Ball. Hehe that's what I get for staying up too late...

Re: Feeding
At a year old I think you're pretty safe going up to a larger size. I make up my feeding schedules based on the snake and how big the "medium" rat is (I feel like every rodent supplier has different definitions for their sizes). I don't know how big your snake is, but I'm guessing that you could feed every 10 days - two weeks. I do not stick to a consistent schedule though (they don't get one in the wild). My 2.5 year old girl is currently getting one xlg rat ever two - three weeks.

I would definitely switch to medium rats. My blood is a Dec. 2010 baby and he is a monster. I am need to finish the F/T I have left, but I plan on switching him to medium. He easily eats 2 small rats every 5-7 days.

With the incredibly slow metabolism these guys have, I feed about 15% body weight every 14-21 days.

Okay, so lets say right now, a medium rat every 10 days because he is still growing and shedding pretty frequently?
Thanks guys! I know these little porkers are definitely different than balls so I wanted some other opinions since this guy is my first blood python!

How is yours temperament wise? I'm working, key word beind working, on taming mine down. He's flighty and a champion hisser, but no strikes, yet!

Mine hisses occasionally, never tried to bite me *knock on wood*. He does what bloods do even for a juvenile, stay in the same place for days. Mine just finished shedding so I need to take done photos. He's super bright. I'm waiting for my girl to shed, should be any day. She hisses all the time, she's all talk.
