Belly heat for me. I made my hatchling rack as well. I laid the heat tape down and put a piece of metal roofing flashing over it to protect it from the tubs rubbing it. I taped the flashing down with foil tape. After 3 years it still looks as good as when I made it. I think the flashing may help to spread the heat out as well.
