Re: anyone else afraid of needles?

Needles don't bother me at all-never have my whole life which is a good thing because I'm diabetic and have to give myself shots..heh

I love tattoos and piercings. I also have no problem with getting my blood drawn. Shots... Yeah, they just freak me out! Same with finger sticks. OUCH!!!

Re: anyone else afraid of needles?

Honestly, i love needles. i gave myself bars in my wrist once because i love the feeling of the needles... however when i have to get a shot i completely flip. Its not that the needles themselves hurt or scare me, its just i HATE the feeling of the fluid being injected into my skin. It just freaks me out!

Re: anyone else afraid of needles?

I absolutely hate needles! Whenever I go for a blood test my hands start to sweat like crazy and I have to turn my head while they stick the needle in my arm. However, I did get my tongue pierced a few years ago and that was a nice sized needle but the thing is that I did not even see the needle so it didn't really bother me at all.

I'm the same way. I hate needles!!! I have a few tattoos and several piercing, but I still get worked up whenever I have to get a shot/have blood drawn. I even donate blood whenever I get the chance and I tell the nurse "I will faint, just so you know", and they just keep drawing blood while I'm passed out on the table Seeing blood is not something I can handle!!! I get really faint just looking at it.

I don't mind needles in the least bit. I find it amusing how nurses are in the habit of trying to distract you and get you to look away for blood draws. I used to donate plasma regularly years ago, do medical studies needing LOTS of blood draws, have had IVs, and had a few injections for dental stuff. I had my wisdom teeth finally pulled a few years ago and the oral surgeon had trouble trying to get the needle into my jawbone. That happened for a filling, too.

You should see me flip out if I get a woodtick attached to me though..

Personally, getting shots and blood drawn is no big deal to me. Although that's only because I've had to have blood drawn more times than I could possibly count because of the "health train wreck" I am. Now it just intrigues me to watch them draw blood from me.

On this same note, a GOOD phlebotomist is an absolute godsend in my book. I've had to go back post-op for all sorts of bloodwork (hemoglobin was low 7's just prior to surgery...had 4 units after).

The phlebotomist @ my Dr's office ROCKS. She wears a set of those fake plastic vampire teeth on her nametag, and gets me in & out of there in no time. She is sooooo awesome at keeping me distracted that she's over & done before I've even realized she's drawn 3-4 vials.

GOOD phlebotomists deserve a WHOLE LOT of credit in making an unpleasant process much, much easier.
