    Mean little sucker!

So i've had my mojave het ghost male for a little over 2 weeks now and he sure is moody! he's my 5th BP and all my others are sweethearts for the most part...i've only been hissed at by one of them...but this little guy has already struck at me twice...bpth times were just spot cleaning the cage and then when i opened up his tub to feed today...i know they are just bluff strikes but it's only a matter of time before i get tagged! lol Good news is he ate F/T today which was his first offering! So apparently he's just a little moody guy...but hey, i can relate! Thought you all might get a chuckle out of this!

I think you need to let him bite you so you know what it feels like and you will be less scared of it when it happens. I will go out on a limb and say any serious herper has been bitten at least a few times. My wrist was the victim of my 9ft reticulated python. But after that a BP bite seems like a needle prick.

Yeah, I agree. I've only been bit 4 times so far and it seems to get easier each time. It's still a little shocking for me when they start striking, but I normally just laugh at them now.

    Re: Mean little sucker!

thank goodness frankie & his family were able to tame down my mojo girl before i brought her home haha. she was a really feisty girl and still has some of the attitude but has not struck at or bit me...yet. i'm not trying to get bit either but i'm never gonna let myself get comfortable thinking i never will cuz that's when it'll happen is when i let my guard down.
i'm still (very slowly) learning to trust my girl exploring me at chest level. the few times she has gotten up to my shoulders i was nervous as all hell. i just kept imagining her deciding to give my ear, or face, a little taste.
    no thanks .

I've been bit several times really but the reason I'm still cautious and pretty scared of getting bit isn't from the pain (which I know is barely existant) but more because I fear for my snake instead.. I'm sure many of you know what I'm talking about, my reflexes are insanely aggressive, so I could possibly fling my snake off my hand as it strikes or squeeze it hard, both possibly killing it. So. Not good. Gotta learn to get struck at without any reaction and just watch it happen. Pretty hard yeah.

I am more worried that my snake will hit my knuckle or something and hurt itself. I haven't been hit yet and not really worried about it for me but it's for for the snakes sake. I told my daughter to expect to get hit at least once so that she doesn't drop him or have some sort of flinging action and toss him across the room.

Yea I know what y'all mean...the advice is to let him strike/bite with no reaction so they will not have a learned behavior...as much of a passion I have for snakes...and absolutely love them...I'm sorry but my first and only reaction to a snake strike is a quick jerk response lol...it's not a fear of the pain as much as it is a surprise...don't know that I'll ever "get use to it" lol
