    Possibly gravid??

    Ok, a bit of the history, then the question...
    I am "fostering" 2 ball pythons for a friend of a friend; he stated that he tried to breed the normal female to a male mojave over a year ago (he wasn't sure when), but didn't witness any lockups; I go in to check on her last night (she's in full blue-eyed shed) and she is laying in a perfect coil, except she is on her back (!!!).
    The info from him isn't really reliable, he's having relationship problems (hence the "fostering") and I'm wondering...
    Is it possible for a female to hold on to the sperm plugs for a loooooooong time? She is ENORMOUS, slightly triangular shaped (ridge-backed), and continues to lay on her side or even fully inverted.
    Is it possible that she is gravid this late in the season?

    Yes it is possible for them to retain sperm, and from what you are desribing, it seems like signs of being gravid. I still have some girls that are building.

    It is possible. Although I have personally seen it I have read several accounts of females storing sperm from the previous breeding season. You may want to keep an eye on her and get an incubator ready just in case. Can you post a pic of her when she is not inverted?

    Re: Possibly gravid??

    I will get a pic of her post shed; I usually don't bother them too much when in shed.

    I thought it was a pretty sweet deal, even if she isn't gravid....
    IF he comes back for them, he buys them from me (rent/care/feeding);
    If it takes a couple of years for him to come back, I can breed them and keep or sell the offspring like they were mine, and he still pays me;
    If he never comes back, I got a 3 slot Jason's Jungle rack, an 07 Bell line pastel male and an 05 normal female for free.

    Re: Possibly gravid??

    Well, she shed and poo'd; after the poo, I'm not so sure that she is gravid, maybe she was just constipated (the poo was about the same size as our 3 pound chihuahua lol!) She still lays on her back, though.
