I've never done the reptile rescue thing but,.. this boy needs it . I saw another tegu post on CL yesterday (posted on the 17th) and was a little irritated about that. Two back to back in the last two months and we hardly ever see them on there.

So I called, talked to the owner and asked for pics. When I opened the email I couldn't believe it,.. "OMG She's pretty,.. but soo under weight" was my response with quite a few questions. While I was sending her a second email with more questions she called me and we talked for a while.

Re homing was the best thing for him ,.. I got him for sentimental value more than anything else. She said She was about 4 yrs old, she got her when she was a baby from the Reptile Shop in a Swapmeet we have here. Which for me translated into,. it's the same age as Dino, purchased around the same time but different shops. IF all the info is correct,.. Confused the more I look at it I can't see it being that old but,.. it's possible. She turned out to be a He buttons and all.

But enough of that for now,..

Maybe it's just me, but he doesn't look all that thin to me. Not fat certainly, but hardly emaciated.

I'm glad that you've got him. Most tegu owners just don't plan properly for when they grow past hatchling stage and then they don't get enough space, heat or food. If he's way smaller than yours(at the same approx age) he's probably just stunted from not enough heat or food. Most likely, he'll catch up in a year. THat's what happened with the ill-kept blackthroat I got. I didn't think he'd ever grow, that he was stunted, but with proper heat and food, he surged in growth and is almost as big as my Moggie. I'll bet the tegu straightens right out too.

One good thing about tegus, you don't have to beg them to eat.

I'm glad to see that he can hold himself up on his legs. I've seen them with MBD so bad that they were squashed flat. He could use a little bit more groceries in him, but he looks nice. I'll bet he's loving that sunshine.

i personally i dont think he looks too thin myself... definitly not the biggest ive seen but but not the smallest but im no expert on tegus either. Its great that you rescued him though! hes veryy beautiful<3

Thanks for the compliments I should have weighed him before I fed him. Tegus store fat in their tails and his has little if any. You can see and feel just about every bone in his body from his neck to half of his tail. I tried to get pics from different angles,.. with, with out flash and natural sunlight. Some show it better than others. But then again his colors and pattern don't help much either.

I didn't say he was emaciated but by tegu standards,.. he is, not at the highest level but still emaciated. I just said he's under weight and needed help which he does. The owner agreed and explained why he's in this condition.

Not saying that he's to far gone or can't come back from it,.. I know he can. If I felt he was too far gone I would have suggested Euthanasia instead of taking him in. He just needs help to do so.
