Sometimes the odds kick you in the teeth. Only thing you can do is try again next year honestly. It sucks that they didn't throw a clown for you but maybe next year will be better.
That is generally what I do to prove out hets and usually by that time I have enough to get a male visual and I will give him once try with the het. Just the way I do things ya know.
Last year I did het to het clowns and got 5 eggs. 3 went bad just weeks before hatching. One of the 3 that died was a clown. The two survivors were normals, but both were females. I ended up picking up a male clown so I won't have to produce any more possible hets. He started breeding at 700 grams and has been a machine. He's now over 1000 and is still pounding rats and locking the ladies.
