A massive bunch of newbie questions.

No tape when snakes are concerned! It can hurt or kill your animal if they accidently touch it or get wrapped up. Assume the worst can happen to prevent it from happening.

As ugly as it is, a tub is really the best enclosure for these types of snakes. The security and ease of keeping temp/humidity make it superiot to any other enclosure. People can go around all they want about making other things work but ultimately it is the easiest way to do things properly.

Ok, thought so. I was thinking the damp towel would be best, but maybe I should just forget it.

Also I don't really care about the ugliness, I'm just kinda annoyed I wasted the money. :/

Well, if you have your receipt, march that stuff right back to the guy who sold it to you. If he doesn't like it, he shouldn't have sold it to you.

I know what you mean about conflicting information, a person could go crazy trying to follow all the different do's and don'ts out there. What I WILL say, is that since I've found this place, I stopped looking all over everywhere for info, I just come here. I will also say not only are my snakes happier with the info here, I'm happier too.

If you need to make due with the Faunarium for now, a damp towel will help, but be aware you'll need to change it frequently to prevent any chance of mildew or mold.

Derek had the right idea when he told you to hit Ebay, he lives in the UK as well and he'd know what the easiest and cheapest route to go is.

I'm guessing the reptile store guy told you about the moss thing because that is what people use to create what is known as a "humid hide". These are mainly used by people in extremely low humidity areas because it's just about the only way to help their snakes shed. In your case, he probably told you to use one because he knew that enclosure would never hold proper humidity.

I have to agree with everyone here that the faunarium is not ideal. If you are going to use it temporarily that might be okay, just make sure you get a thermostat for that heat mat, they get VERY hot and can seriously burn your snake. I know a lot of info all at once can be confusing (and frustrating!), but I wouldn't go anywhere but here if I ever had a question regarding any of my snakes. I suggest the sterilite tub like Brian and other have said, it's cheap and easy, and you'll never even look at moss since they keep humidity perfectly. Ok, I'm getting a 9L rubbermaid box and going to try to take the other one back. What would be the best size and wattage of heat mat for that?

It's 155 x 255 x 395mm. It was the closest I could find to the size of the faunarium. The next size up is pretty massive.

I'd get a mini UTH, not sure what kind they have in UK but it should only take up 1/2 of the bottom at most. Be sure to get a thermostat too, they get real hot....even the small ones

Yep, the thermostat's on it's way in the post. Would 150 x 280mm (7 Watts) be OK? There's also an even smaller one which is 102 x 127mm (4 watts). Haha I'm not sure what qualifies as mini!

I really have no clue on the watts, I'd say as long as it takes up 1/3 to 1/2 of the bottom and regulated by a thermostat, it will be just fine
