It is definitely not a good idea to remove the hide if your snake is using it. It's often said that a "hiding BP is a happy BP". By removing its shelter you are definitely causing stress. S/he is roaming around the cage to find another hiding place. In their natural habitat they hide in burrows for the majority of their lives.
