The problem is, the race track IS on the east side.. Pretty close to some projects as a matter of fact..
There are things to do in J town but not much unless you're a gambler. What with the riverboat casino and the off track betting facility. A mall and theaters on the north side. Aside from that Joliet is famous for having LOTS of bars lol!
You have to go west or north of Joliet to have fun. North to Chicago for "city stuff" like clubs, museums, etc..
West to Ottawa or Utica for outdoors/nature stuff. Starved Rock state park, Mathiesson state park (canyons and small falls). Ayers canoe rental on the fox river. Best Cajun food ever at The Cajun Connection.. That's an hour away from Joliet.
Where you will be at the races, if you take I80 east to Orland Park, RT45 exit (La Grange rd) and turn left. Go past the mall, to 143 st, turn right, the Chicago Reptile House is right there on that block. Its big and fun lol! That's only about 15 minutes from the track. Not including race and construction traffic.
There are also much better restaurants on La Grange rd then there are where you will be in Joliet.
Also Chi Town Harley Davidson is right there off the interstate. A huge mall, theaters, places to eat etc..
So fun is dependent on what you consider fun. City? Country?
