Incubation temps
I wasn't expecting a clutch of eggs but one of my females layed 6 good eggs last night. My incubator was off so I cranked it up and thought I had it stablized before I put the eggs in. When I woke up this morning the temp inside the incubator was 108f! I quickly tuned it down and got it stablized again. The eggs were in the incubator for about 7 hours and I'm not sure when the temps spiked to 108. I'm hoping I didn't cook the eggs.
Has anyone experienced this and had viable clutches? Was it too hot for too long?

Temp spikes yes.. but you were baking cookies my friend. I'd give them till tonight and check them if they're cooked you'll know it. Best of luck!

Re: Incubation temps
For future reference, how soon after being laid should I put eggs in the incubator? Could I have left the incubator running all night then put them in the incubator this morning?

I've had eggs in with a female for a day or two waiting on Vermiculite..I'd say within 24 hours is ubber ideal..

Re: Incubation temps
Under proper tub conditions, you can leave the eggs in full term, so I don't think there should be too much of a rush getting them in the incubator. Just my thoughts.
Edit: As said above...Ideally within 24 hours, but I would wait longer if the incubator temps were still questionable.

Re: Incubation temps
Due to inexperience I think I rushed it. My impatience might cost me 6 good eggs.

I had a clutch last year that spiked to 100 after day 5, my thermostat cooked out and carried on heating .
But all hatched at the end of the day...
Hope you have some luck on your side, good luck .....

Re: Incubation temps
Yikes, Mike.!
108 is way too hot.
You could have left the eggs in over night with mom. Next time definately let the incubator stabilize, even if it takes a couple days.
I wouldn't give up on the eggs. They could go full term.
Let me know if you are having problems with your incubator.
