    babies and up

I currently have a 1.3 adult colony that had three litters in the past month.
The first set have been weaned for a week or so, the second are close, and the third was just born.

The problem Im having is that every few weeks one of the babies are being consumed by an adult. Woke up this am to find a weaned being eaten so I go to move the last 3 of them and they are all males so I won't bother and the others arent ready yet.

Why are the parents eating them???? They have plenty of food and all three females are nursing.
Should I move the 3 and would it be possible to introduce females a later time? The females would all be siblings

Contrary to popular opinion, I have broken up colonies. Putting the males and females in separate group tubs was not a problem. I have also made new colonies from the group tubs and they worked out fine. I did this because I have two lines and wanted to mix them up.

So, yes, it is ok to move the weanlings to a grow out tub and group them later.

What are you feeding? We had the same problem. We would have 24 or so pinks and end up with half by the time they could be weaned. We switched to Mazuri and havnt had one eaten. Plus they are breeding so fast we have an overflow of ASFs it's crazy..... But never a bad thing.

Im feeding a mix of Mazuri and wildlife feed. Both are slightly above 15% protein. I tried blocks and they are so-so with them, Im thinking about looking at Ferret chow most have 35% protein. Of course staying away from the obvious ingredients.
