Interesting day at the office...
I get free popcorn at work, which is cool if you like popcorn. What's not so cool about it is people can't seem to read directions...
Everyone in my building had to evacuate for a good 15-20 minutes today while we waited for an all clear to go back in because someone burnt popcorn...
This happens so often it is mention in orientation, along with precautions about using the toaster...
And just to be clear, I work for a software company that requires everyone have at least a Bachelor's degree and makes you pass a crazy amount of tests before you get hired. Why don't smart people have common sense?

I actually think that the fact that there's so many B.A./B.S. people at your company lends itself to having popcorn->fire alarm incidents, lol.
Still that sucks, and you have my sympathies.

Hahahaha! That rings all too familiar. In my experience I have found that a person's ability to obtain one (or more) degrees, or the ability to pass a test doesn't prove their intelligence, or cognitive ability. It only proves their ability to memorize and study/cram for a test.

Well sometimes it seems that when god was handing out looks and brains, some people thought he was handing out books and pains.
I must admit though I have an M.S. and I do burn popcorn or anything else I put in the microwave. I just don't pay attention sometimes.

Re: Interesting day at the office...
As part of the senior management team at my work I am actively trying to get popcorn banned in the employee handbook for this very reason. That and the smell of popcorn travels throughout the whole building. As for the toaster, we recently expanded our building and added a senior break room so that we could have a toaster and take it out of the normal employee break room.
Oh yeah I forgot to mention that no one is with me on this plan at all.

Re: Interesting day at the office...
I just found the whole experience interesting. People were wondering what was going on as we exited the building and I said someone probably burnt popcorn. It's the first time it's happen in my building since I started.
I think the most interesting fire alarm we've had so far was someone's car was on fire in one of the parking garages. I don't know what happened, but it was certainly an odd e-mail to recieve.

I have lots of "blonde moments" too, but the warning about burning the popcorn is pretty much on the microwave it's hard to make excuses for these people.

It doesn't help that we hire a lot of people fresh out of college, but it really shouldn't be that hard to make popcorn.

Lol, yeah I know it's not very common. We have a rule book filled with rules that would think would be common sense to most people, but because enough people did the stupid thing they had to create a policy to handle it.
