Is this vendor a good source

I read through the forum rules and I didn't see anything saying that we can't discuss vendors, so if this question isn't Kosher just say so. There is a rat farm about an hour away from me. Her prices are double that of RodentPro.com. She sells pinkie rats for .75ea and they sell them for .39ea. Her large are the same size as their large. Hers are $2.50 and theirs are $1.49. Her shipping to me is $10, cheaper than I can drive up there for but the $50ish shipping rodent pro charges still has her beat.... by a lot. Is RodentPro a good place to get prey items from?

alot of people on here get from rodent pro and it is 50 to ship but if you buy more than one bag (up to a certain weight) you can get them shipped in the same box so theres no extra shipping. good place for buying in bulk

If it is eating pinkie rats now, and they sell bags of 100, I could still feed them even if he out grows them and they wouldn't go to waste, right? I really don't know what I'm doing good yet so I just want to make sure I don't end up wasting money and not saving it

Are there any expos near you? If so, you might be able to pick up some there and not have to pay shipping at all. That's what I do and it sure saves a lot. The vendor I buy from there is a broker for RodentPro. I haven't had any trouble with their product. I pay $1 per small rat and $40 for a bag of 50 jumbo mice (45-55 grams each). No shipping since I pick them up at the expo. Just a thought.

As far as feeding the pinkie rats long term, you could do that, but you'll have to start feeding multiples. Are you feeding just one a week now? If so, you could go to 2 a week when the pinkie is no longer as big as the snake is at it's thickest point around.

Also, f/t rodents keep a long time, but I personally don't like to store them for longer than 6 months. Air is the worst enemy to frozen feeders. When you get the bag of 100, if you seperate them out into individual bags of 10 then they'll keep longer. And 100 is a lot - it'll last a long time. Maybe longer than 6 months. Is there anyone you might split your order with? Perhaps your local pet store would even consider splitting the order with you and use some. Again, just a thought....

I think pinkies might be a little small for a BP. I would either buy fuzzies or pups, I've heard that some people start out their hatchlings on rat pups. Either way, feeding mutliple is going to be a little harder on their digestive systems but you can do it. I have a couple BPs that I think are still a little small to switch to small rats so I feed them 2 rat pups.

I tend to agree with this. That's why I thought maybe there would be someone you could split the order with. You could also share the shipping cost so win-win....

Your snake is going to do alot of growing, especially in the first year. You might come out better just driving to the rat farm and getting about a 2 month supply each time, until he gets big enough for small rats. Once he can eat small rats in the 60-80gram range, then order a bag from Rodent Pro, which will last longer because there isn't any real need to go much bigger than that with a BP.

I found a guy on craigslist that was selling feeder rats of all sizes for $1 for pinkys to small and then like 1.5 for medium rats.
I went down and picked up a nice little supply of them then stopped off at albertsons and grabbed a small thing of dry ice.

Dry ice ( in a container with holes) + tub of rats = plenty of snake food.

My local shop charges $3 per small rat and I got these for 1/3 of the price. Plus I know for sure how long they have been dead and frozen.

Think in total I spent $30 on rats, $1.09 on sandwich baggies and $1.39 on dry ice.
