her time left is now unknown
my grandma tita is slipping away. she's 88, has alzheimers and is in the hospital again with pneumonia. the doc's gave her minimal chances of surviving the night and from what my dad was saying this morning they had some difficulty with her breathing last night.
my mom called yesterday and i got to talk to my grandma for a minute. (she was awake but intubated). i told her i loved her and my mom said she was trying to say it back.
watching her slip away and waiting is taking it's toll on my mom. she doesnt want her to die alone but suffers horribly listening to the gurgly breathing all day .
they want her to pass naturally (if her heart gives out they wont try to resuscitate).
as much as i love her and do not want her to go it would be devastatingly cruel to "keep her around".
for her sake, and my mom's, i hope my grandma passes peacefully and unaware .
we love you grandma.

Sorry about your grandmother. Sending prayers for you and your family. It hurts to see them like that. We never want our loved ones to suffer. I lost my dad several years ago. He suffered for 3 months in the hospital after having surgery. He was the strongest man I know. It really hurt when he passed and it still does there was nothing we could do but let him finally rest.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family right now. We lost my 100 year old grandmother two weeks ago. We were blessed to have her for so many years, and have her with 100% of her mind all those years. It's never easy to say goodbye, no matter how many years your family is blessed with.

Sorry to hear about this, my grandmother suffered from severe dementia for a long time, it's so hard to watch their mind go, then their body. Just stay strong and see her as much as possible. She thought I was her hairdresser near the end, but at least she recognized me as someone she knew

I'm sorry to hear that. My grandfather has been in the hospital for pneumonia 3 times now. I've said goodbye to him, thinking he was going to die, 3 times now. Each time he bounced back.
So maybe your grandmother will make a recovery. If not, I hope she doesn't feel any pain when she passes.

I'm so sorry that you're grandmother is very ill.
Thank God that she has family who comes to see her. Many people assume that because someone has dementia and doesn't always recognize them that they don't have feelings. I'm a nurse. I work in a dementia unit. People may be confused, but they somehow always know when someone loves them. It's a real blessing for her that she has a family who cares for her and supports her.

Re: her time left is now unknown
Vanessa,
I am so sorry to hear this. I lost my prescious grandmother several years ago and I still miss her very much. She had dementia and did not know who I was or who any of us were when she passed away. The important thing is that your mother and everyone else is there with her now. I'm sure she is comforted by your mother's presence. I pray that if it is her time to go and be with the Lord, that she passes peacefully.

Re: her time left is now unknown
got the news today...tita passed on around 10ish this morning (PST), i've had the news for a couple hours now but have kind of been letting it sink in. my family is in california and im in south carolina and although my mom mentioned flying me out there to be there now she's saying we cant. they're making arrangements for the funeral and all that, i'm not gonna push for them to fly me out there as well, on top of their planning on coming here in or around september.
be at peace tita.
i'll miss you.
