tornado thru MA
After an exciting day of rain, thunderstorms, and tornados I have no power and its not lookin good. My house and the neighbors are ok but a lot of people got it bad. All I really have to worry about is keeping the snakes warm enough, which shouldn't be a problem. Hope everyone is doin ok

Re: tornado thru MA
Yup.
Tornados are not something to take lightly. They are powerful forces.
Hopefully everyone is okay.
Pretty amazing site as this one went over the Connecticut River. It's almost like something you would see in the movies as it sucks up the water...

Re: tornado thru MA
mpkeelee - i think i discovered what HAS to be the cheapest, easiest way to provide back up heat...ready for it?
here it is...
a hot water container wrapped in a pillow case or a t-shirt.
(note: a shallow square or rectangular shaped container will be better then the bowl-style ones.)
put this on the warm side with the warm side hide on top of it.
the hotter the water you put in it, the longer it stays hot. the pillow case or t-shirt shields the snake from any potential burns.
when it cools down, simply replace the water.
i came up with that when our power went out after a particularly severe thunderstorm and was struggling to figure out how to provide back up heat. i was almost resigning to the idea of having to spend alot of money on the instant, short lived hand warmer packs but then a light went off in my head and i ran to our tupperware drawer. now i have a specially designated container kept next to my girl's terrarium just for these such occasions.
my current collection
1.2 kiddos
1.0 better half
0.1 mojave ball python (Nyx)
0.1 Dumerils Boa (Hemera)
1.0 Eastern Box turtle
3.4.? rats (? = litter coming any day now)
0.1 dutch rabbit (Lucy)
my "future hopefuls"
0.0.1 pied cockatiel 0.0.1 white bellied caique 0.0.2 guinea pigs

Ya I use the hot water method if I'm going to the vet. It works pretty good. I'm moving the snakes to my brothers house cuz he still has power so they will be fine. I just hope my freezer full of rats and Fortaz stay frozen til the power comes back

Hope everything worked out!
