Bigger, meaner, faster, hot. I don't know where I read this but it was a description of the evolution of the types of herps reptile keepers/collectors own.

Personally I love how laid back balls are but if you need a boost I def. agree with other posters on getting a blood. These guys are great for engaging handling sessions. I have two and with both you must actively handle them to keep from getting bit. They have calmed since I purchased them but they are still quite fun to keep. They do hide all day and night you will see them less than a ball python. They are not good if you plan on having one as a display animal. Another snake you may like is Liasis Fuscus. The Australian water python. These guys are absolutely gorgeous, next to the sunbeam snakes these guys have the most iridescence I have ever seen. They are very active animals too so while they may not necessarily be bitey they move around a lot while being handled. One other species you may enjoy is Brazilian Rainbow boas. Some are nippy some are not but they are beautiful with brilliant reds, yellows and oranges as well as a significant amount of iridescence.

In short there are plenty of other moderately sized boas and pythons that will be more engaging during handling. I think if you check out the three listed you may find exactly what you are looking for.

    Good Luck

Anyhow, I don't doubt that you love your BP, judging by your excitement when he took his meal. I'm sure you will find a snake that gives you the satisfaction you seek.

If you're looking for a more active snake, I'd say go for a nice Bull Snake. I have one and it is a night and day difference when it comes to behaviour and although my bullsnake will hiss and rattle it's tail, it has never bitten me yet...now watch, i'll be bit the next time i go to handle it LOL
