vacation/breeding plans

I am interested in hearing thoughts on planning personal vacations throughout the year while playing the breeding game with Bps. I know there are general guidelines to when a snake should lay after ov and pre lay shed, but how does one calculate for a good time to take a trip when its really natures call of when ov happens or eggs or hatchlings are coming. Is it best to plan trips in winter? (although I have purchase snakes that hatched in Dec.) I'd appreciate any thoughts on a good month to plan a trip and not put breeding issues at risk. Last year all my eggs had hatched by the end of May. We planned a cruise this year for the middle of June. All of my females decided that they would take a little longer this year and now the wife and kids are leaving for a cruise in a few weeks and I'll remain at home to deal eggs and hatchlings. My wife and I had this conversation a few days ago and I think next year we will plan on late August. People just starting out in this hobby don't realized that breeding is just about year round. I start pairing up around Nov 1st and everything will finish hatching the last week of June or the first week of July.

Last year Sept. I managed to get away for 6 days , No vaca this season.

Rats are the hold up for me. 4 day weekends are the longest I go.

I hear you. I wasn't even taking the rats into consideration. I have a high school kid that takes care of my rats when I'm gone but I don't trust anyone with my eggs. I pay him 125 dollars a week to check food and water every other day and clean once a week.

This was my first season so I haven't got to go yet. Me and my wife though are gonna have to go back to New England this summer though due to her grand parents not being in great health. i will more then likely have some girls laying then so I dont know what I'm going to do yet.

I am sorry to hear that. I thought about the rats too but I am going try to slim down my rat population several weeks prior to vacation. This year it seems my pre planned vacations will be okay although earlier I thought eggs might have come while we are away. I think maybe next year Ill see how the season goes before planning any trips, but I'd still love to hear other peoples thoughts.
