Phantom of the Opera Rat
I didn't have the heart to feed her, so she's going to a good home.

One of the things I'm still not totally comfortable with as a snake keeper...

She's adorable! I'm not yet comfortable with live feeding either, especially the rat pups. I was lucky to take in my two normals who readily accepted f/t, but now have to deal with live feedings for my Pin. Tonight I fed him a live rat pup that I fell in love with. He constricted it in such an odd way that it took about 4 minutes to actually kill it. A screaming rat pup is heart breaking.

Even my breeding partners rattys are all cute, so I haven't much choice myself.
If I kept the cute ones I'd have thousands of cute ratty's running rampant and a bunch of starving snakes lol
Haha, exactly.
You kind of have to become immune to the cuteness of all of the babies and tell yourself that the rats are there to feed what you love...your snakes.

Do you guys keep any special rats as pets or are they all fair game?

I do have one as a pet. Eventually I plan to choose a baby Russian blue of my colonies to socialize as a pet as well. Possibly a ruby eyed American blue also. I'm partial to the blue rats.

I do have a few favorites that are/will be breeders and then live the rest of their short life out with me...but I still don't consider them pets.
Many, many years ago, I had a pet rat that was the most amazing little thing I've ever had. She was the smartest and most loving creature I've ever had the pleasure of owning (and I've owned a LOT of animals)....but rats don't live very long. I was so beyond heartbroken when she passed. I do NOT want to go through that again.
