Might have a problem..need expert advice.

I've never seen or heard of this happening but I just had a BP lose a spur...He was a CL pickup(got him a few weeks ago) that was in pretty bad shape..scale rot and such..cleared up the scale rot, he shed, ate VERY aggressively(he's now one of my best feeders), and now I'm handling him 2 weeks later and his spur just comes off...anyone ever hear of anything like this happening??

I have had it happen before with rescues. You just need to keep it clean, if there's open skin, you can use neopsorin or a generic brand of triple antibiotic ointment on it, just use the one with NO pain reliever. I'd put him on newpaper or paper towels until it's healed.

    Hi,

Robin ( Rabernet) made a post about it once - a breeder popped one off in front of her.

It seems the spur itself is a tiny white thing and what we are calling spurs is accumulated shed on top of it.

    Hi,

If you want to double check that's what it is take a nice clear picture of it and pop it up and PM Robin to have a look next time she is on.

I can actually see pretty clearly that the little white spur didnt come off..just the hard part...kinda looked like a sleeve, I just didnt understand why it came off. There was no blood or excretion of any kind so I'm sure he'll be fine..just wanted to see if it meant anything bad really.
