I know you were already "scolded" by the other members, but I have to add that MANY professional breeders use flat newspaper... my snakes all live in tubs, mostly with newspaper as bedding, since I'm allergic to wood-based beddings. Carefresh is the only one I can tolerate, so I give that to the colubrids who like to burrow. Anyway, I have 26 snakes, and not one has ever gotten a "paper cut" (LOL) or been sick.

As for the hides, all but one of my snakes has as least one - the snake who doesn't is Nerissa the BP, as she really doesn't care for them. I tried offering a hide when she first arrived, and she'd only flip them over or knock them around... so instead she coils behind her water dish, or makes a newspaper "tent" to hide under.

Here's Nerissa's 41qt tub (and she's ovulating in this pic!)

And this is my more typical BP setup - Mona, who does like a hide.

And this is my usual colubrid setup... Carefresh or newspaper bedding, 1-2 hides, and of course a water dish.

Kipling the JCP has a couple of branches, since he's the only one who cares for climbing/perching...
