People always will want to have the next best thing! Finding a ball python that looks weird, and ends up being a codom morph or something with an insane super form is awesome, and a lot of people would pay money for that chance! Imagine the people who found things like the spotnose or some of those other ball pythons that pretty much look normal other than a bit of wonkyness.. People have high hopes!
And...Well, this is my personal view... I would be willing to spend plenty of money on a pretty normal if it could turn out that it was genetic. I dislike when people think 'any old normal will do' with breeding, because there is such variety in normals! The work doesn't all have to be put on the morph, the normal can contribute to the genetics as well. There are some super bright normals, almost as bright as fires...imagine using them in a line of pastels or hypos where you want a brighter snake. Or the weird pattern of the black backs with things like albino! There is some cool stuff out there. I think too many people just use whichever normal they have and don't consider the traits, and then are disappointed when they have an average looking clutch of ball pythons.
Some people get a little outrageous with the cash they spend, but that's how auctions go. Most of his stuff he auctions off end up selling for ridiculously cheap though, so I guess it sort of evens out hehe!
I've considered getting one of his rainbow boas. Always gone when he has the auctions though. Almost won once! But got outbid at last second.

Depends on the snake... I You talking about BEN he had some good stuff this year..some of them was black back and i saw really nice one it goes for over 200 (female) he had possible black belly and that snake was sold for way above 300$ He had few nice striped animals few nice granites...People risk some money hoping that they prove genetic... Some of them do .. Like You say in USA: No pain No gain
