Are markers safe to mark rats with?
I want to keep the female rats out of my litter and feed off the males. Is there a safe way to dye or mark their fur so I can identify them quickly for feeding? They are not weened yet so I can't sort them into different tanks. I was thinking either sharpie or ink. Do you think that is safe for both them and the snakes?

No need, their easily sexed and takes less than 5 seconds..
Markers will get licked off when they groom eachother..

I am new at this, and the pups look very similar to me. Do you have any tips on sexing them? Links to good pictures, etc?

Got it. It turns out I was doing it right. I just have more males than I was thinking I would have. :/ oh well I guess I will have to hold back some females out of one of my other two litters.

LOL mine seem to be throwing about 7 or 8 males in every litter of 12

Food coloring on the tails works good for marking a rat. It's safe too.
